STENCILS

We have included this page to show you more about modern painting stencils, and airbrushing
masks - specifically the latest sought after effect of realistic true fire and ghost flames.

We can lasercut any shape, logo, graphic and text into a modern durable
plastic material which rivals the old aluminium stencil.
We very rarely cut aluminium stencils anymore. Aluminium stencils bend and stay bent,
clog up easily and require constant cleaning, they aren't all the flexible for curved surfaces,
and are more expensive to create.

One of the most fantastic properties of this lasercut plastic is the fact that most paints
will NOT stick to it, so they dont clog up. It is like the anti stick coatings on non-stick
kitchenware. When the paint dries, it simply peels off.

There is still the usual restrictions on graphics for stencils, ie, all internal parts
of text and graphics must be "tabbed" so they stay in the right place, and graphics and
text has a minimum size (ie, most text has to be 15mm high or larger for the tabs to hold,
and the paint to flow through). And also, although as durable as aluminium, the tabbed internal sections can still be damaged by extremely rough handling or cleaning.

We have the most common stencil fonts available to choose from, for an immediate design and cut
stencil of any size from, say, 30mm x 30mm, up to 650mm by 1200mm.

We also have in stock the popular true fire airbrushing stencils, see below for more information.

Here is an example of a classic stencil!

These are airbrushing stencils (masks), they measure just under A4 size each.

For the non-expert, an explanation:

You (with your airbrush) only use the individual smaller bumps and pockets on each stencil. You hold it in your hand, and turn it around depending on what curve you want to use (you wouldn't spray the whole thing at once!). They are used really as a mask, ie, they mask off an area where you dont want the fine paint spray to go, and the edge of the mask allows the paint spray to create this shape curve. The set here would have just about every possible curve to create whatever imagery you like, but they are also designed to aid in the creation of "true fire" flames. This effect has become even more popular with it being shown on TV programmes such as Overhaulin' where you get to see the artist using stencils to quickly create true fire effects, and other ghostly, gothic, skeletal skull type effects.

These shapes were designed and supplied courtesy of Chuck Bauman, you can visit his website with this link for more information, tutorials, a DVD, and details on learning and using these stencils.

The patterns are absolutely free - you can trace and scissor-cut them out for yourself, or have us lasercut them from our special stencil plastic, for clean edges and a longer lasting product. I estimate them to be about NZ$10 each, or NZ$50 for the set of 8.

Send us an email, or call and order the complete set, or individually.
